Getting started

How Long Does a Small Business Website Take to Build?

People expect the answer to be months. It almost never is. A small site with a handful of pages is a few days of real work for a designer. The rest of the calendar fills up with waiting: waiting for the logo, waiting for someone to write the services page, waiting for feedback on a preview that nobody has looked at yet.

01

What a normal project looks like

You pick a package and a domain on day one. Over the next couple of days you send over your business details, your logo if you have one, and whatever photos exist. The designer builds the pages while you wait, and somewhere around the middle of the first week you get a private preview to click through. You ask for changes, they get made, and the site goes live.

Bigger sites take longer, simply because there's more to write and check. A shop with products to upload is a different job from a five-page brochure site.

02

What slows things down

Content, nearly every time. A page can't be finished until the words and pictures exist, and writing about your own business is harder than it sounds. The second biggest culprit is feedback. A preview that sits unopened for a week adds a week.

Smaller things pile up too. A booking system or online payments need testing. Moving a domain you already own can take a day or two to settle down, whereas a new one connects in minutes.

03

How long ours take

Starter sites go live in 5–7 days, Business in 7–10 days, and Growth in 10–14 days. The clock starts once we have your details, which is why the single best thing you can do to speed things up is send them quickly.

04

Getting live sooner

Dig out your logo and a few decent photos before you start. Decide who has the final say, because three people giving conflicting feedback is how a week becomes a month. And keep the first version small. You can always add pages once the site is out there and you can see what visitors actually look at.

Common questions

Can a website be built in a day?

A one-page site can, if you hand over everything up front. A proper small business site needs time for writing, review and testing, so think days, not hours.

What's the usual reason for delays?

Waiting for content. Text, photos and a logo have to exist before the pages can be finished.

Can I add pages after launch?

Yes. Most sites start small and grow.
